While in New York I received several suggestions to visit The Sugar Factory America Brasserie. The Sugar Factory initially sounded like a candy shop. Typically, I research restaurants that everyone recommends and then I make my decision. While in New York I decided to live a little and I did not research any of the restaurants beforehand. Instead, I visited restaurants based solely off people’s recommendations. Recommendations came from friends, colleges, random people I met on my flight and at the airport, Facebook and Instagram. The Sugar Factory was recommended by at least 6 people for their cocktails and presentation (two things I love), so it was added to my restaurant bucket list.

The restaurant is located in Manhattan; in the meat packing district. The space was previously home to Scott Disick’s restaurant, Ryu. It has since been replaced by the Las Vegas import Sugar Factory American Brasserie. When you pull up to the restaurant, you notice the candy inspired sign and patio. When I got out of the car I noticed the cobblestone pavement that looks great, but be careful because it is easy to fall if you’re in heels (deadly combination after cocktails). When you make your way inside there is candy everywhere! There is even a candy store in the located in the front. The restaurant is very intimate and reminds you of an old New York ice cream parlor. When I arrived, it was near closing, yet everyone was still friendly and accommodating despite it being late.

When I was being seated I noticed the tables were relatively small. The menu has several food options ranging from bar food to filet. But after studying the menu I really wanted to try a drink. The options for cocktails were mind blowing! After debating for about 5 minutes I decided to order a “goblet.” The goblet is Sugar Factory signature drink. The drink comes in a fishbowl style glass and has 60 ounces, I repeat, 60 ounces, of your drink combination. There were several options for the goblet such as a passion punch, ocean blue, and a classic Mai Tai. I decided to try a berry bliss which was filled with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

In the pictures you can see drink the table-side presentation from start to finish. I loved that you can see the fresh berries in the fishbowl before they add the liquor. Then there is dry ice added that gives the smoky effect. The Goblet is $36 and the other cocktails aren’t cheap, so be prepared to spend a pretty penny while dining at The Sugar Factory. In my opinion, it’s well worth the money.

When I dined, I went with bar style food. I had chicken fingers, a house salad, mac and cheese pops and onion rings. The portions were large but the food was standard. When I return I will make sure to check out entrees. Overall, I would recommend The Sugar Factory for a great time.
